Research, not lab theatre
We don’t run a test lab, and we don’t claim hands-on testing we haven’t done. Every recommendation is built from sources you can check yourself:
- Official spec sheets and support pages: Wi-Fi standard, ports, VPN and firewall throughput, how long the maker promises security updates.
- Independent lab results for antivirus and security suites (AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, SE Labs), always with the test date.
- Security track record: published vulnerabilities, breaches, how fast the company patched, and whether the product is still supported. Regulator actions (FCC, FTC) are cited from the official documents.
- Long-term owner reports from forums, Reddit and verified reviews, looking for patterns (dropouts, failed updates, support problems) rather than single complaints.
If a page states a measured number, it says where the number comes from and when it was published.
What the score means
Each product gets a score out of 10, weighted for the people we write for, families and households rather than enterprise IT:

Our rules
- Rankings are never for sale. No vendor pays for a placement or sees a review before it’s published.
- Affiliate links don’t decide the pick. Commissions differ between stores and programs; we recommend the product that fits the reader, and say so when we earn from a link.
- Prices carry a date. A price we show comes with the date we checked it. Prices change, so check the store before you buy.
- Picks get updated when a product is discontinued, loses update support or has a security incident. Every page shows its last-updated date.
- Discontinued products get flagged, not silently left to collect clicks.
- AI assistance is disclosed. News briefs and some articles are drafted with AI help from the cited sources, then checked against them. The disclosure sits under the sources on each article.
Who we are
CyberSec24 has been on this domain since 2017 and was rebuilt in 2026 around home network and family security. The site is independently owned, with no private-equity roll-up and no content farm. Spot a mistake or want to question a score? Contact us and we’ll correct it.
